SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Congressman John Curtis confirmed to KSL NewsRadio’s Dave & Dujanovic that Russian forces attacked a children’s hospital in Ukraine that also houses a maternity ward.
In response to the question of whether a Russian airstrike targeted the hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine, Rep. John Curtis, R-Utah, said: “From everything I know, that is correct. Yes.”
Curtis on Ukraine hospital attack: Our hearts are broken
Speaking on the radio program Wednesday, Curtis said the bombing of the hospital represents a continuing pattern for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Ukraine invasion.
“Our hearts are just broken, and it’s just further evidence of the nature of Putin and his strategy and what he will resort to,” Curtis said.
Curtis noted a shift in sentiment about the events unfolding in Ukraine over the last several days.
“I think the last few days have been a game-changer, and this might be an exclamation point,” Curtis said. “But I was with a group of lawmakers, both Republicans and Democrats, this morning. And the anger was horrific, focused on our lack of response. That we need to be doing more, that this is unacceptable for the greatest power in the world to be watching what’s unfolding there. And that these excuses are wearing thin of us not doing more.”
Speaking from Belgium in late February, Curtis called for swift action from world leaders to send a message to Russia. You can see those remarks below.
