SALT LAKE CITY — The Beehive Science and Technology Academy, BSTA, in Sandy, Utah is the number one high school in the state according to the latest rankings by U.S. News and World Report.

The school is ranked 305th in the nation, according to the report.

More than 80% of the students at BSTA participate in Advanced Placement coursework and exams; 40% of the students are minority students, and 28% of students are economically disadvantaged.

Other Utah schools in the ranking

Dozens of other schools in Utah received rankings based on their performance in six categories: college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rate.

The top ten Utah schools in the U.S. News and World Report Ranking are:

  1. Beehive Science and Technology Academy, Sandy
  2. InTech Collegiate High School, North Logan
  3. Northern Utah Academy for Math Engineering and Science, Layton
  4. Academy for Math Engineering and Sciences (Ames), Salt Lake City
  5. Itineris Early College High School, West Jordan
  6. Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy, Lindon
  7. Corner Canyon High School, Draper
  8. Skyline High School, Salt Lake City
  9. Farmington High School, Farmington
  10. Timpview High School, Provo

Corner Canyon High School, in Draper, was Utah’s highest-ranking traditional high school.  Alta and Brighton High Schools also appear high in the rankings, something Canyon School District Spokesman Jeff Haney said the district is happy about.

“We have large, comprehensive, traditional high schools that are ranked in the top 20 in the state,” Haney said.

“We’re so proud of our students for really studying hard in a very challenging year. After two COVID-19 years, they’ve been able to maintain their studies and perform well academically.”

There are nearly 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia included in the rankings.
