Driver in crash that killed two children in Eagle Mountain identified

Two children died in May, following an Eagle Mountain car crash when a vehicle lost control and crashed into a corral where they were playing. On Tuesday, a judge ruled statements made by the suspect Kent Cody Barlow will not be kept private. (Utah County Sheriff's Office)

Eagle Mountain, Utah — The driver in the crash that killed two children in Eagle Mountain has been identified as Kent Cody Barlow, 25, of Eagle Mountain.

The Utah County Sheriff’s office said that during the investigation into the crash, deputies and detectives found evidence that Barlow was impaired. The sheriff’s office said a preliminary drug screen came back positive for methamphetamine.

Barlow was booked on the suspicion of multiple felonies, misdemeanors, and infractions. Those include automobile homicide, DUI with criminal negligence, possession of a controlled substance, and speeding.

The sheriff’s office said Barlow was going near or faster than 100 mph and had run a stop sign immediately before crashing.

Barlow went off of the paved road, smashed through fences, and crashed through a corral and into a set of horse stables. 

The two boys killed had been playing in the corral when the car crashed through. The sheriff’s office said the boys died instantly. They have been identified as Odin Ratliff and Hunter Jackson, both of them were 3 years old.

A ** fundraiser has been established in the names of the two boys to help the families pay for funeral costs.

The car was completely destroyed in the crash.

Barlow was seriously injured and taken via LightFlight to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo where he was treated and released. Two passengers were also treated at Utah Valley Hospital before being released. The sheriff’s office added that a third passenger was treated at Mountain Point Hospital in Lehi. 

Eagle Mountain City issued the following statement on Tuesday, regarding Monday evening’s incident.

“Eagle Mountain City is devastated to hear of this horrific accident and our hearts are with the family of the victims. The City is working alongside the Utah County Sheriff’s Office in the matter to the best of our ability. While the investigation by the Sheriff’s Office is ongoing, Eagle Mountain City intends to do everything it can to ensure safety in this section of roadway.

EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah — The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a car crash Monday evening in Eagle Mountain in which two children were killed.

According to authorities, a driver was reportedly driving at a high-rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it went through a fence into a corral where two children were playing.

According to police, both children were struck and killed in the incident. Three occupants in the vehicle suffered serious and critical injuries. 

The incident happened at roughly 2300 North 1600 West in Eagle Mountain.
