BOUNTIFUL, Utah — An 18-year-man is in the Davis County Jail in connection to stabbing two women Thursday night in Bountiful, police say.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office says Kane Thomas Fairbank lured an 18-year-old woman to meet him at Mueller Park. The two met a just a few days earlier through the popular dating app, Tinder.

Bountiful stabbing

Police say the two were at the park for several hours before Fairbank stabbed the woman several times just before 6:30 p.m. The victim was able to fight free from Fairbank and flag down help, according to police. The victim had stab wounds to her hands, face and neck.

Several bystanders in the area rushed to provide aid to the victim, including a pair of nurses and a paramedic.

Fairbank fled the area and drove to a gas station in Bountiful and abandoned his vehicle. According to the probable cause statement, the suspect disposed of the victim’s cell phone by “throwing it in an area where he believed it would not be found.”

The probable cause statement also states that Fairbank, in an effort to destroy any evidence, destroyed his own phone.

A second victim

From there, police say, Fairbank went to the area of 550 North 500 West. Police also say Fairbank approached a 64-year-old woman in the area and stabbed her.

The woman also was able to fight back and was provided first aid by witnesses in the area. Police say the woman suffered life-threatening injuries. Fairbank left the area but was located in a nearby neighborhood. He was detained by another citizen until police arrived on scene.

The probable cause statement further states that Fairbank admitted that the second victim was a stranger to him. He told police that he allegedly approached the second victim because “she was elderly, alone, and vulnerable.”

According to the probable cause statement, Fairbank admitted to planning the attack on the first victim, and “planning to continue to kill other people.”

Both victims were taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Fairbank was booked into the Davis County Jail under investigation of two counts of attempted murder, a second-degree felony. He was also booked under investigation for two counts of obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony and aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony.

On Friday, a court ruled that Fairbank is to be held without bail.
