SPRINGVILLE, Utah — The Utah Food Bank will break ground on a new facility Tuesday, May 24 in Springville.

The groundbreaking ceremony for Utah Food Bank Timpanogos Distribution Center will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The ceremony will be joined by Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, Utah Food Bank President, and CEO Ginette Bott and Springville Mayor Matt Packard.

“The pandemic shed light on just how many Utahns are one paycheck away from not being able to feed their families,” according to Bott. “This facility is part of a multi-pronged expansion project to ensure that we can more effectively and efficiently meet the needs of Utahns for generations to come.”

The Utah Food Bank called the Timpanogos facility a “critical piece” of the organization’s expansion.

Fighting hunger in Utah County has posed many challenges, according to the organization.

The Timpanogos Center will allow Utah Food Bank to provide services to the area that it had previously been unable to provide. The facility is expected to open its doors in 2024.

Once the facility is completed, it will be 77,032 square feet. It will include 50,364 square feet of warehouse and commercial kitchen space, as well as 26,668 square feet of office space.

Along with providing services, the Utah Food Bank said the new facility will also create local jobs.

Last year, Utah Food Bank distributed 70.2 million pounds of food and goods, the equivalent of approximately 58.5 million meals, to families and individuals in need.
