TOOELE, Utah — A six-acre fire burned near Anaconda Road in Tooele, Utah Tuesday night after the discharge of illegal fireworks. The Tooele Fire Warden took to Twitter to remind Utahns to only set off fireworks during approved times and in approved areas.

Tooele County Chief Fire Warden Dan Walton said in a tweet that the fireworks sparked near a wildlife preserve.

Firework safety tips from Utah Fire Marshal

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has safety tips available online to keep in mind ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The fire marshal encourages Utahns to be prepared, responsible, safe and aware.

Tips include keeping fireworks out of children’s reach, having water handy, and lighting one firework at a time.

Only adults should handle fireworks and lighters and should soak used fireworks in a bucket after use. The tips also recommend keeping pets indoors, as they can scare easily.

The fire marshal’s site also provided the list below showing when Utahns can legally buy and set off fireworks. 

Additionally, the only fireworks that can be legally discharged at approved times and locations are Class “C” fireworks.

The fire marshal’s site also provides a list of firework restrictions by area, though some areas do not have up-to-date information.
