Update July 18, 2022

Utah Fire Info. reported that firefighters have contained around 92% of the Jacob City Fire in Tooele County.

Fire crews continue looking for hot spots to extinguish on steep slopes but warn that hot, dry windy conditions are expected in fire areas.

SALT LAKE CITY —  As the Jacob Fire in Tooele County continues to burn, the Bureau of Land Management West Desert District, Utah Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands and Tooele County issued a fire prevention order on Wednesday.

The prevention order remains in effect until the fire is declared controlled by the incident commander or canceled by authorities.

The order called for restricting access to public lands in the vicinity of the Jacob City Fire. The area is located east of the Town of Stockton on the slopes of the Oquirrh Mountains in Tooele County, Utah.

Restricted access

The prevention order restricts public entry, recreation and unnecessary traffic near the Jacob City Fire, including:

  • East of Copper Street and Gravel Site Road
  • East of Watercrossing Road and Queen of Hills Road
  • North of Ophir Canyon Road, and West of Serviceberry Canyon Road, South Fork Soldier Canyon Road, North Fork Soldier Canyon Road, and Water Fork Canyon Road
  • South of Southport Gulch
  • Right Hand Fork of Settlement Canyon

For resident, grazing permit holders and other citizens that require access to that area need to coordinate with the incident commander to ensure safeguards are in place. Authorities continue to work to suppress the blaze and eliminate hazardous conditions. The Jacob City Fire is just one of twenty-six fires started this past weekend, with twenty-three fires being man-made. An arrest related to the Jacob City Fire was made on Tuesday. The closure comes on the heels of Gov. Spencer Cox’s warning , “Let me reiterate, you will be held responsible if you start a fire.”

The fire has consumed over 4,100 acres at this time.
