SALT LAKE CITY — A 21-year-old man was taken into custody Friday night Salt Lake City Police say after allegedly stabbing a 30-year-old man in Pioneer Park.

Police say they were notified just before 5 p.m. of a man bleeding at the park.

Once at the scene, officers found the victim and began rendering aid. Bystanders directed other officers in the direction of a man walking through the park.

The man, later identified as Mahat Osman, was stopped by police and taken into custody.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

The suspect was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries that occurred before his arrest.  Police say Osman has since been released from the hospital and will be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault.

According to the preliminary investigation by police, the incident appears to be isolated. Witnesses told police the two men had been in a verbal argument just prior to the alleged stabbing.

Police also say they searched the park and found a knife.

No other information on the Pioneer Park stabbing was available.
