LAYTON, Utah — No injuries were reported in a house fire Wednesday morning in Layton.

According to Battalion Chief Jason N. Cook, of the Layton City Fire Department, crews were called to the area of 1150 N. Hill Field Road just before 7 a.m.

Cook says when crews arrived on scene, they noticed heavy volumes of smoke coming from all four sides of the home. The occupant of the home, an adult male, was able to exit the home unharmed.

Cook says the homeowner reported waking up to home in his home and called 911. Additionally, Cook says the home is on a busy street, so dispatch received several emergency calls about the fire.

A stubborn fire

According to Cook, the home was full of debris, which hindered conventional ways of fighting fires.

“It’s going to be a very stubborn fire,” Cook said to KSL NewsRadio. “I suspect we will be here for some time.”

Cook says there were small, camping propane bottles and a small amount of black powder in the basement of the home. However, he says it’s something emergency personnel aren’t necessarily concerned about, as the fire was contained to the main floor.

“It’s something we’re aware of,” he said to KSL NewsRadio. “But not necessarily something, we’re concerned about.”

Traffic on Hill Field Road was closed in both directions for a time Wednesday morning as crews put out the fire. Fire crews from Hill Air Force Base also responded to the incident.

The exact cause of the Layton house fire has yet to be determined.
