SALT LAKE CITY —  An urban park is being proposed to replace the site of the old Raging Waters in Salt Lake’s Glendale neighborhood. The plan was released as part of Salt Lake City Public Lands’  Glendale Regional Park Vision Plan.

A pool is one of the new amenities planned for the 17-acre park. It was a top priority for the community according to Public Lands officials.

The plan outlines that the old lazy river at Raging Waters would turn into a roller skating ribbon, with ice skating in the winter.

Plans are also in the works for winter sledding in the proposed urban park.

A large all abilities playground, a skateboarding park, rock climbing, a dog park, and multiple walking trails are also included in plans for the new urban park.

The park is funded by $3.2 million in development impact fees, and construction plan development is now underway. The plan still requires input from the Parks, Natural Lands, Forestry and Trails Board (PNUT), as well as from the Glendale Community Council, Salt Lake City Council, and the Salt Lake City Planning Commission.

The amenities in Phase 1 include part of the community plaza/promenade, the playground, sport courts, picnic lawn and some parking lot improvements according to a press release. Phase 1 is being built closest to the existing Glendale Park.

The first phase of the construction, along with new amenities, should be done by the spring of 2024.
