Layton man taken into custody for allegedly recording women in restroom

LAYTON, Utah — A 25-year-old Layton man is in custody after police say he allegedly placed a recording device in the women’s bathroom at a Taco Bell restaurant in Layton.

Layton Police responded to the Taco Ball, located at 885 N. Main Street on Wednesday after a woman found the device. Police say that it was actively recording and was seized. 

Police searched the device, and it showed an adult male placing the device in the bathroom. Police say that the suspect’s face was shown on the device.

Later, police discovered the individual who placed the device in the restroom was an employee of the restaurant. The suspect has been identified as Eulogio Cervantes. 

According to the probable cause statement, Cervantes was arrested as he showed up for work on Wednesday. 

The probable cause statement further states that Cervantes, in a post-Miranda interview with police “fully admitted to placing the camera in the women’s room to record women in a vulnerable state of undress.”

Police also searched the suspect’s phone, according to the probable cause statement, and allegedly found videos and pictures of women in the bathroom. These were of women he did not know and also co-workers. 

The Layton man has been booked in the Davis County Jail. He has been booked for investigation of five counts of voyeurism. He has also been booked for investigation of voyeurism of a child under 14 years of age and sexual exploitation of a minor. Both are third-degree felonies. He has also been booked into jail under investigation for aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, a first-degree felony.
