UPDATE (11:00 a.m.): Crews have reopened a couple of lanes of northbound I-15 near 14200 South in Bluffdale, after a late night hazmat spill that left commuters at a standstill for hours. We expect residual delays to take some time to clear out.

Listen to KSL NewsRadio’s live feed for the latest updates from the KSL Traffic Center. This story will be updated. Our original reporting follows:

BLUFFDALE, Utah —  A multi-vehicle crash has closed I-15 northbound near 14200 South blocking the right lanes. The crash resulted in a hazmat spill.

The closure is expected to be in place until at least 8 a.m.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, an Amazon semi-truck jackknifed on the highway. A passenger car entered at 14600 South and merged over to avoid the semi.

A pickup truck that was traveling at a significantly higher speed then hit the back of the car. A semi-truck carrying two tankers full of crude oil was traveling too fast for the conditions and lost control, sliding into the back of the Amazon semi.

Sgt. Cameron Roden with the UHP confirmed that approximately 1500 gallons of crude oil spilled when the semi’s back tanker trailer overturned and came detached, blocking the middle lanes.

Hazmat, fire, UDOT and environmental groups are on the scene assisting with cleanup.  No serious injuries were reported.

Traffic is diverted off of exit 288 and motorists can use the frontage roads northbound to Bangerter Highway.

We want to hear from you.
