UHP urges drivers to be safe and alert over holiday weekend

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Highway Patrol is beefing up its patrol officers this New Year’s Eve to catch impaired drivers and keep the roads safe.
UHP Sgt. Cameron Roden told Utah’s Morning News that law enforcement wants people to make the right choice and get home safely this weekend.
And if you see someone driving dangerously, there’s something you can do, according to Roden.
“If someone is posing a danger and a hazard to others, make sure to call 911. That way we can investigate the situation and find out. It could be a drowsy driver, but it could be an impaired driver, ” Roden said.
He added that calling 911 helps get impaired drivers off the road.
Aside from impaired drivers, an incoming storm will also make Utah roads dangerous this weekend.
Roden told Utah’s Morning News what to do if you see a crash.
“You can call 911 and report that to make sure that we can get officers there as quickly as possible. [To] get the people there help that they need but also help prevent any other crashes from happening.”
