SALT LAKE CITY — Utah is celebrating Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a month full of activities. The Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs invited Utahns to make MLK Day a “day on, not a day off.”

MLK day isn’t the only time to celebrate

The Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs created a list of activities happening throughout January and February meant to celebrate King’s life, mission and impact.

Some activities include service opportunities, keynote speakers, rallies and marches.

A list of the events, their locations, and times can be found on the Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs website.

U of U hosts MLK Week

In addition to other celebrations in the state, the U is going the extra mile to celebrate King’s legacy.

Rather than just celebrating on Monday, the U has various events planned every day this week to dive deeper into King’s ideas of love and inclusion.

Titled “Choose Love Over Hate,” MLK week includes service, keynote speakers, singing, movies and marches.

On Monday, the U is hosting a rally at East High. The rally will feature music and keynote speakers, followed by a march to Kingsbury Hall.

MLK Week ends with a jubilee including food, music, and games, all meant to commemorate the students who fought for equality in the civil rights movement.

Other organizations like Westminster College, Thanksgiving Point and the NAACP also have planned several activities to honor King.
