SALT LAKE CITY — A combat veteran recently won Alignable’s 2023 Local Business Person of the Year award for West Valley City.  Alignable is a small business referral network. Members of the network nominate small business owners for the award.

Joshua Cameron owns Toward Goodness Coaching and describes himself as a spiritual healer and guide.

He is also considered an “ambassador” with Chamber West, Chamber of Commerce. Through his work with the chamber, he says he hopes to normalize spiritual healing for those who serve in America’s armed forces.

“What we have, seeing roughly 80% of addicts coming from pharmaceutical drugs, is not working. They placate the symptoms and often leave you worse for wear,” Cameron said.

Cameron joined the U.S. Army in 1999 and deployed to his first warzone eight days after Sept. 11, 2001. He deployed to Iraq in 2003.

He said he has helped multiple combat veterans through spiritual healing. One veteran was an analyst who spent four years in Iraq. Another, a special forces veteran from West Valley.

Cameron said in a press release that his best advice to kids of today is to make your own way and never give up on your dream. Furthermore, to not let hardships define you.

“You may be in a bad situation but that isn’t you. You have the power to change your situation and if you do that, you may just change the world,” he said.

“Believe in yourself while leaving yourself open to feedback. Don’t let other people tell you what is possible while not assuming you’re right all the time.”
