FARMINGTON — During a news conference Wednesday, the Farmington Police Department released a 10-minute video of the body cam footage of a traffic stop that led up to an officer-involved shooting on March 1.

That officer-involved shooting led to the death of 25-year-old Chase Allan. And questions have been raised since the incident as to why body cam footage was turned off.

“(The) order to shut off body cameras was simply done out of efficiency for the investigation,” said Farmington Police Chief Eric Johnson.

Johnson also acknowledged the officers were not aware of the family’s history with law enforcement.

“Four of those officers on scene have been with the department seven- or eight-months max,” he said. “One of those officers on scene have been with us for 12 years. And has not had any involvement with that family.”

Two days after the incident, KSL NewsRadio reported that the victim’s mother, Diane Allan, had sued the Farmington Police Department over a traffic stop of her own.

Johnson says at this point they are still trying to put the details together.

“I want to remind you that this video footage is only one piece of information in the incident. And the only information available to us at the moment,” he said.

A critical investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This video presentation from Farmington PD, includes footage and audio from when Chase Allan was shot. Viewer discretion is advised. KSL has reviewed the unedited versions of all five officer-worn body cameras. We are choosing not to share the full videos but have included details in our reporting from those videos.
