SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Food Bank is getting a huge donation thanks to the BYU and Utah State football teams and the Utah Pork Producers Association.

According to a press release, UPPA, Smithfield and the Fredette Family Foundation, made a commitment ahead of the 2022-2023 football season. The campaign is called “Points for Protein.”

Together, they pledged to donate 50 pounds of protein to Utah Food Bank for each point scored by BYU and Utah State during the season.  The teams scored a combined 696 points. That equals a donation of 35,000 pounds of protein. The donation consists of ham, bacon, lunch meat and hot dogs.

The 35,000 pounds of pork products are equivalent to 140,000 servings for Utah families.

The food will be distributed throughout the state via Utah Food Bank’s network of partner agencies.

Additionally, the Utah Food Bank is sponsoring a statewide food drive Saturday, March 18, as well to help more families in need.
