Experts are warning of increased chances for landslides this spring

SALT LAKE CITY — Experts say to be on the lookout for more landslides this year. State Geologist and head of the Utah Geological Survey Bill Keach said they are striving to make sure people have the information they need as water continues to affect hillsides.
Landslides in Utah are likely going to happen more this year than in years past
“We’re trying to keep an eye on that and actively map where people are so we can make decision-makers,” said Keach. “Our roll of the survey is to get really good scientific information to decision makers.”
Keach says normally they see a landslide in-person once a year or every other year. But, this year, they’ve already responded to at least four, and there’s more on their radar.
“We hope our engineering is better. But our urban sprawl has pushed us into areas where we weren’t built before.”
The landslide season for Utah is far from over says Keach.
