SPANISH FORK, Utah — Seven homes were flooded Friday afternoon and three others suffered minor water damage following a water main break.

According to a press release from Spanish Fork City, the incident occurred on 800 East near Center Street just before 2 p.m.

The release states, a contractor performing work on a traffic project punctured a hole in the secondary water line. That caused thousands of gallons of pressurized water to come to the surface, impacting streets and homes in the immediate area.

Emergency personnel were able to close the streets around the break and help evacuate several residents along 800 East.

The release states that 800 East will be closed from Center Street to 100 North through at least Saturday morning.

The American Red Cross is assisting two families who were displaced by the water line break.

The city also says Friday’s incident is not related to last week’s drinking water main break that occurred one block south.
