SALT LAKE CITY — In an effort to track and slow the spread of COVID-19 in Utah, the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) will continue to offer free testing to many hard-hit counties around the state.
The additional sites offering free rapid antigen testing are targeted towards areas with high positivity rates, fewer tests conducted, untreated wastewater sampling, and other surveillance data.
In a COVID-19 news briefing earlier this month, Dr. Angela Dunn said the free testing sites offered by UDOH has helped control the spread of certain communities.
“These testing clinics are designed to more quickly identify people who are currently infectious with COVID-19, including those who may not even know they are infected because they don’t have symptoms,” explained UDOH in a statement. “Identifying these individuals will help slow the spread of infection in the community.”
Some of the new locations will offer drive-thru testing, while other testing sites will take place indoors. Anyone over the age of five is allowed to get tested — even if they aren’t experiencing symptoms. UDOH also encourages everyone to receive a test even if they’re showing mild COVID-19 symptoms.

How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus
COVID-19 coronavirus spreads person to person, similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:
- Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
- Don’t touch your face.
- Wear a mask to protect yourself and others per CDC recommendations.
- Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet).
- If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities).
- Obtain a flu shot.
