WEBER COUNTY, Utah — A 22-year-old Montana man faces a long list of charges following an alleged road rage shooting Sunday that resulted in a high-speed chase through northern Utah.

The Utah Highway Patrol has identified the suspect as Dakota Anderson, who was booked into the Weber County Jail. The UHP says the incident began around 4:55 p.m. when Weber County dispatch received a call of shots fired in the area of milepost 349 on northbound I-15.

Road rage shooting

The UHP says at least three shots were fired out the window of a white Chevy Impala toward another vehicle on Sunday around 5:00 p.m. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances between the two vehicles. However, the UHP says there was no damage to the other vehicle

As troopers located the vehicle and waited for additional backup to arrive, the suspect took the Sardine Canyon exit toward Cache County at a high rate of speed.

In Sardine Canyon, UHP troopers initiated a traffic stop. However, the suspect took off and reached speeds of 80 mph. The UHP says on I-15 speeds reached 100 mph.

A short time later, troopers were able to spike the tires of the suspect’s vehicle, and it rolled. Troopers performed a felony stop and drew the suspect out at gunpoint. Four firearms – three handguns and a rifle were found in the car. Authorities are unsure of which weapon was used in the road rage shooting. The probable cause statement also says drug paraphernalia was found in the suspect’s car.

Anderson has been charged with six counts of aggravated assault, each count is a third-degree felony. Anderson was also charged with three counts of discharge of a firearm, each count is also a third-degree felony.  Additionally, Anderson was charged with four counts of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.

Anderson also faces charges of failure to respond to the commands of a police officer.
