DRAPER, Utah – Draper Police Officer Jagard lost everything when her home burned to the ground on Sunday. Luckily, she and her family got out unharmed.
Fellow officers knew what happened within hours of the house fire, and now the Utah State Fraternal Order of Police have started an online fundraiser to help the family get back on their feet.
Gary Dudley, the president of the Draper Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, says fellow officers comforted the Jagard family on scene and have been sharing the online fundraiser on several Facebook pages.
“When things like this happen to police officers, we’re used to being the ones that are going to help other people. Every now and then, things like this happen to us where we’re kinda on that receiving end,” Dudley says.
Chad Leetham, the president of the South Salt Lake Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, feels the fundraiser is a way to give back to the Draper Police Department, who have helped them in the past.
He also encouraged members of the public to donate if they can.
“You’re not only helping her and her family, but you’re helping the Draper Police Department. You’re also helping that positive influence from law enforcement from within the city, and that’s really what we need right now,” Leetham said.
Along with monetary donations, the Utah State Fraternal Order of Police are also looking for clothes for the officer’s young daughters.
