Payson doctor arrested, accused of operating without a license

PAYSON, Utah — The Utah Attorney General’s SECURE Strike Force arrested a Payson doctor and accused him of performing medical procedures without a license Tuesday.
Both the doctor, Edgar Flores-Bobadilla, 65, and many of his patients were undocumented immigrants. Brendan Call with the Utah Attorney General’s Office Investigations Division said they investigated the case for a number of months.
“Flores-Bobadilla took advantage of his patients and charged them a lot of money for his ‘treatments,’” Call said. “People paid thousands of dollars each, partly because undocumented workers often distrust the traditional system. And in these cases, he was carelessly and repeatedly putting their lives at risk.”

After Flores-Bobadilla’s arrest, investigators found $140,000 in cash in his office along with medical equipment and medicine.
Flores-Bobadilla faces multiple felony charges. They include practicing medicine and dispensing pharmaceuticals without a license, as well as a pattern of illegal behavior.
Patient tip leads to arrest of Payson doctor
Authorities discovered the illegal activity after a patient whose procedure reportedly went wrong contacted the Payson Police Department.
Investigators believe there may be more victims of Flores-Bobadilla; he reportedly saw hundreds of patients over the past few years.

According to the webpage of the Utah Attorney General, the SECURE Strike Force (Statewide Enforcement of Crimes by Undocumented Residents) was established in 2009 by the Utah State Legislature. Together with the Utah Department of Public Safety, and along with county, federal, and city law enforcement agencies, the strike force investigates violent and other major felony crimes associated with illegal immigration and human trafficking.
