Driver, victim identified after fatal crash in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — Police have identified the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Salt Lake City that claimed the life of a pregnant woman and critically injured her young daughter.
On Tuesday, Jack Archibald, age 53, of West Valley City was reportedly impaired while driving east on 1700 South when he swerved into oncoming traffic lanes. Police said that Archibald then drove onto the sidewalk near 900 East and hit 23-year-old Libbie Isabel Allan and her daughter.
Today, detectives arrested 53-year-old Jack Archibald, of West Valley City, in connection to this case.

Police said Archibald left the scene after hitting the pedestrians. He was found a short time later, police said, near the Forest Dale Golf Course. He was inside a shed, and “smelled very strongly of an alcoholic beverage,” a police report said.

A *fundraising post created for the victim of the crash described the victim as being five-months pregnant with her second child.
