PARK CITY, Utah — Bold Reuse has been running a pilot program for reusable takeout containers in six Park City restaurants.

The monthly subscription for restaurant goers provides them with plastic containers that they use and then drop off for cleaning and sanitation at specified drop boxes.

One of the six restaurants in the program is the Guest Haus.

Guest Haus Owner Jennifer Sutton said that there is always a lot of cost with regular takeout containers, so this program made sense in more ways than one.

“I think if we can look at those different costs and say ‘okay, even if it is a little bit more, it’s good for the environment or maybe it’s just a wash. We don’t have to carry as much takeout to go container inventory.’ Like there’s definitely different reasons that businesses would want to get involved.”

According to Sutton, some environmentally conscious patrons were quick to hop on the program, while others took more time. But, Sutton said, “there’s definitely an interest in it.”

The Bold Resuse pilot program ends at the end of October, but Guest Haus wants to continue with the program even after its end.

Sutton said she was happy to find a way to support sustainability.

“Really it was about like, ‘this makes sense and we should all be thinking about the ways we can do better with waste.”
