SALT LAKE CITY — As more skiers become interested in Utah resorts, more traffic problems arise in the canyons. In one instance this week, UDOT had to deal with vehicles that were parked illegally on side canyon roads.
Adding to potential parking problems for Utah skiers is this — UTA ski buses will not start servicing ski resorts (and reducing traffic) until Dec. 11.
Carl Arky with UTA says once ski buses do start running, a driver shortage means the busses will be less frequent than in previous years. He said buses often drive during snowy conditions and they need drivers with specific experience.
“It’s not just going out and hiring just anybody,” he said. ” I don’t think anybody in the public or anybody that is upset about the bus service would want us to … go out and hire anybody and put them behind the wheel of a bus that’s going up and down a canyon.”
Arky said getting up and down the canyons will be different this year and that skiers should plan accordingly. UDOT suggests carpooling.
