SALT LAKE CITY — A car accident on SR-32 on Wednesday involved two vehicles and what first responders with South Summit Fire District called a significant motor vehicle injury accident.

Those first responders are using this accident as an opportunity to remind motorists about priorities.

In the crush of the metal, two people needed the help of first responders. One of them, according to South Summit officials, had to be cut from their vehicle and was fighting for their life.

During these intense moments, SR-32 was closed. The victims had to be removed from the accident and then stabilized. Then they were loaded into an ambulance.

After the ambulance left, the road remained closed for an investigation into the crash and, still longer, as the damaged vehicles were removed from the road.

Then, as firefighters and their equipment were released from the scene and began leaving, the South Summit Fire District reports that people who were stuck in traffic (and understandably frustrated) began throwing their hands up at the first responders, their anger visibly on display.

“We are sorry if this inconvenienced anyone,” Summit County Fire District wrote in a statement to KSL. “But please remember when the road is shut down, there is a reason it is shut down.

“Remember someone’s life could be, and in this case was in jeopardy.

“Next time it could be you, your family, friend, or loved one,” the statement continued. “So please keep in mind the job we do is to aid people in times of crisis … The road was shut down because that’s what needed to be done.”
