PAYSON, Utah — A man recovers in the hospital Thursday morning after officials said he was trapped in an evacuation trench on Wednesday.

A representative from Payson Fire and Rescue said their agency was called to a confined-space type rescue near 1400 South and 300 West in Payson, where a male worker was trapped.

The 38-year-old male was flown to Utah Valley Hospital for treatment of what Payson Fire called traumatic injuries. As he was boarded onto the helicopter, he was said to be talking to rescuers and appeared to be stable.

Payson Fire said they received help from multiple other agencies, including Payson Police, Intermountain Life Flight, and fire agencies from Santaquin, Spanish Fork, Provo, Lehi, Pleasant Grove, American Fork, Saratoga Springs, and Lone Peak.

Crews worked to secure the area once the worker had been cared for and taken to a hospital.
