PROVO, Utah — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released new digital renderings of the redesigned Provo temple, and the new Smithfield Utah temple.

In the church’s most recent General Conference church President Russell M. Nelson announced that the church would be reconstructing the Provo Utah temple after the construction on a new temple in neighboring Orem was completed. Currently, closure dates for the Provo temple have not been announced.

The Provo temple was the sixth temple built in Utah and the 15th temple built by the church. The temple was dedicated in 1972.

The renderings for the Smithfield Temple announced by President Nelson in April of this year were also released. The church said it plans on the Smithfield temple being a three-story 81,000 square-foot temple to be built on a 13.3-acre site at the intersection of N 800 West and W 100 North.

The church says 2.1 million Latter-day Saints live in Utah, which accounts for about two-thirds of the state’s 3.2 million residents.

“Each temple is considered a ‘house of the Lord’ where Jesus Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity,” the church states on their website. “In the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to follow Jesus Christ and serve their fellow man.”
