Utah lawmakers seek recommendations on eminent domain policy for charter schools

SALT LAKE CITY — Lawmakers in a committee hearing questioned what authority charter schools have to call on the state to seize property through eminent domain laws.
District schools have done it. And charters are public schools too, but they are run by private entities or citizens.
State Senator Howard Stephenson says there is confusion about who has the authority, is it the charter school itself or the state charter board or the state school board.
The committee closed the meeting by asking for recommendations from those groups.
